Mechanistic Comparison between Gastric Bypass vs. Duodenal Switch with Sleeve Gastrectomy in Rat Models
BACKGROUND Both gastric bypass (GB) and duodenal switch with sleeve gastrectomy (DS) have been widely used as bariatric surgeries, and DS appears to be superior to GB. The aim of this study was to better understand the mechanisms leading to body weight loss by comparing these two procedures in experimental models of rats. METHODS Animals were subjected to GB, DS or laparotomy (controls), and ...
متن کاملOne-round Group Key Exchanges from Scratch
Since the inception of the Diffie-Hellman protocol in 1976, it has been an elusive open problem to construct a one-round group key exchange (GKE) protocol. In this paper, we investigate the open problem and answer it in a modular way. We first revisit the GKE definition and distinguish the conventional (symmetric) group key exchange from asymmetric group key exchange (ASGKE) protocols. In the l...
متن کاملCooperative bimetallic oxidative addition reactions*
The factors that control the oxidation of metals in bimetallic complexes are investigated in relation to the possibility of developing one-site addition two-metal oxidation reactions such as those that occur in the respiratory protein, hemerythrin. It is shown that the behavior of bimetallic complexes is not represented by the sum of the analogous monometallic parts because of metal and ligand ...
متن کاملProfessional Society Ethics Group exchanges experience.
A brief report is given of the October 1984 semiannual meeting of the Professional Society Ethics Group, which comprises 26 societies affiliated with the American Association for the Advancement of Science. At the meeting, a representative of the American College of Physicians (ACP) discussed a new ACP Ethics Manual written by an ad hoc committee of the ACP to address major ethical issues enco...
متن کاملQuantitative kinetic investigation on transmetalation of ArZnX in a Pd-catalysed oxidative coupling.
Transmetalation is the rate-limiting step. [R-Pd-Ar] was suggested to be the resting species from the kinetic studies. Quantitative measurement of the transmetalation of ArZnCl with [R-Pd-Ar] from a live Pd-catalysed oxidative coupling reaction was conducted and the corresponding activation enthalpy was determined as 12.3 kcal mol(-1).
